Show , . . Pastry "Doodles" v oc French Pastries-American Style . . . homy, easy to make, tempting and delicious. Have fun making pastry "doodles," using your freshly made Victory jellies and preserves with tender, flaky pastry. The family will tease you often for these favorite Yankeedoodle Pastries. YANKEEDOODLE PASTRIES Mix 2 Vi cups sifted ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR and 1 teaspoon SALT. Measure out cup SPRY and divide into two equal parts. Step l' for Tenderness cut in first half of Spry until as fine as meal. Step 2 for Flakiness cut in remaining re-maining Spry until particles are size of large peas. Add 5 tablespoons cold WATER, mixing thoroughly into a dough. Make any of the following tempting temp-ting pastry desserts from the thinly rolled dough. Jelly Tarts. Cut small circles; in V2 of them cut 3 thimble holes. Bake in very hot oven (450 F.) 5-10 minutes. Cool. Put plain and" cutout cut-out circles together with jelly. Apple Butter Goodies. Spread small baked rounds of pastry with apple butter and put together in three's. Teatime Tarts. Put teaspoon marmalade on 2 inch circles of dough, moisten edges with water. Pinch dough at 3 points to form a triangle with filling showing in ' center. Bake in hot oven (425 F.) 15 minutes; sprinkle centers with nuts. Pastry Whirls. Spread an oblong of rolled dough with Spry, cover with jam, then sprinkle with chopped nuts, raisins, sugar, and cinnamon. Roll up, place on baking sheet, and cut in -inch slices. Bake in hot oven (425 F.) 15 minutes. Spicy Crisps. Cut dough in desired smail shapes, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, and bake in hot oven (425 F.) 5-10 minutes. Sugar'Snails. Sprinkle rolled dough with sugar and cinnamon, roll up, and cut in thin slices. Bake in hot oven (425 F.) 5-10 minutes. Jam Circles. Place spoonful of jam in center of small circles of dough. Moisten edge, place another circle on top and press edges together. Make 3 creases across top, turn, and repeat. Bake in hot oven (425 F.) 10-15 minutes. |
