Show WASH DAY MAKES EXIT FROM HOUSEWIVES LIFE "Blue Monday" or wash day, the dread of many housewives for years at last appears to be definitely defin-itely making its exit from the American scene. Even for families famil-ies who cannot afford to buy washing machines or send the laundry out, writes Robert M. Yoder. He sites the experiences of two founders of a new community service which permits women to take laundry out of the basement and "downtown" to have it cleaned speedily. The two men, Eugene R. Farney and Arthur W. Percival, outfitted a store with numerous washing machines which enabled housewives to drop a coin in a slot and have their soiled linen cleaned while they did their shopping, shop-ping, gossiped, or played cards. Within 30 minutes the clothes are finished and ready to be ironed. |
