Whitney of the United States Golf association announced today the entries and pairings for the national amateur golf championship, play for which will begin next Saturday morning at the Oakmont Country club, Allegheny county, coun-ty, Fennsylvan ia. There are 132 entrants, but more are expected by mail from distant clubs before be-fore the tournament starts. Onlv two Canadian players are among the aspirants to the title, but nearly all the prominent gnlfers in the country are on the Hst. Among these are six former for-mer winners of the title, including Charles "Chick" Evans of Chicago, who wmi the last championship, played for in 1U16 at Philadelphia.. The other erstwhile holders of the national na-tional honor who will try for it this year 1 are: J. Ti'avers, Tipper Moutclair. N. J., a four-time winner; Robert A. Gardner, Chicago, who won it twice; E. M. livers, Allegheny, Pa., the 1906 winner; AV. C. Fowncs. Jr., ' of Oakmont, champion of 1!U0, and Francis Ouimet, the Boston player who defeated Travers for the title at "the Kkwanok Country club, Manchester. Manches-ter. Yt., five years ago.
