ST. JOHN'S, N. F., Aug. 12.The Prince of Wales landed here at noon today to-day and rode through an enthusiastic crowd lining two miles of city streets over which decorated arches had been erected. The weather was ideal and shipping and public buildings were gay with bunting bunt-ing in honor of the distinguished guest. The largest crowd in tho history of the city cheered the prince enthusiastically. The route of tho parade was decorated with spruce trees topped by gay colored shields bearing the flags of the allies. Ten arches erected by the municipality, commercial societies and business houses were an attractive feature of the decorations. deco-rations. At the Commercial arch tho prince received re-ceived an address read by the president and especially noting the work of the fisher-folk in defying the German submarines. sub-marines. The prince replied appropriately. appropri-ately. At the Colonial building, tho parliamentary parlia-mentary address was read by the colonial co-lonial secretary. Here the heads of both houses of the legislature presented the prince with an electric device for the illumination tonight. Tonight the prince attended a dinner, which was attended by many prominent citizens. An automobile parado followed. fol-lowed. After the parado the prince returned to the government house and attended an informal dance for the younger set, remaining until 1 a. m.
