Show MIDNIGHT MINE WILL BE OPERATED AGAIN Capital has turned its eyes toward Aspen As-pen and the old camp is expected to come into its own again as the premier metal producer of the west, with the entrance en-trance of a string of eastern millionaires recently, according to the Hocky Mountain Moun-tain News. J. F. Williams Renker & Co. of Topeka, Kans. ; C. Foster Hayes of Kansas City, with J. S. WUloughby and Emmett Gould, local mining experts, inspected the Midnight Mid-night mining property, which in the old days was one of the richest mines in the country. They made an inspection of the workings work-ings and took "high grade" samples of the several veins of ore cut In the tunnel during the progress of the same. The tunnel was abandoned in the early days I because of the heavy flow of water, despite des-pite the fact that it produced hundreds of tons of high-grade silver ore. The tunnel, when completed, wfB be 3000 feet long, 1800 of which is already completed. "We believe that there is a great future for Aspen and tbe Midnight property." said Renker. "and to back Up our belief we stand ready to raise the necessary money to finish the tunnel. Also to develop de-velop the streak already cut, and put up a mill if It is deemed necessary to save greater value and make the Midnight a real mine. After a careful investigation ot the mine, we are enthusiastic over the outlook. The face that the tunnel was overlooked in the early days convinces us that there is still a world of high-grade high-grade ore in the mine." This mine Is located four miles south ff Aspen and was formerly owned by the late B. Clark Wheeler, who made thousands thou-sands of dollars In this district and played a prominent part in state politics , as a member of the senate of the general assembly. |
