(or eighteen years an employee of the city street department, was killed almost instantly in-stantly yesterday morning at 10 o'clock, when hia foot wad caught tu the flywheel fly-wheel of the olty rock crusher north of Warm Springs and his bodv wau manned by the whirling machinery. The other workmen had heard no outcry, and, owing to a high board fence between them and tho rock crusher, crush-er, did not Witness the accident. Crabbe. city street commissioner, and Ralph Darling, superintendent of tho city repair department, conducted an Investigation Immediately following tho accldent. They said it was evident that Koster was making an adjustment Ul tho machinery, when the fly wheel, revolving at 1000 revolutions per minute, caught his foot and dragged him Into the machine. Commissioner Crabbe said that workmen on the rock crusher had been given explicit orders to make no adjustments in tho machinery while it was In operation. ' Commissioner Crabbe said Foster had requested that he be allowed to worlc extra yesterday, as Christinas was nearlng and he wanted the extra pay. As tho street department was working every possible moment crushing rock to be used on the streets before they became froien by the cold weather, " Foster's request was granted. Mr. Crabbe said that the dead man's family would be allowed compensation compen-sation amounting to approximately $4500 under tho provisions of the state workmen's compensation act. Lynn, 19 years of age: Kenneth, 15; LeRoy. 10. and Karl, 3 years of age: and two daughters. Edna, 12 years of age. and Helen. 1 year. They reside at SI I Simondi avenue. Foster Was born In Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, Lan-cashire, England. Funeral services wilt be held at 2 o'cJock Tuesday afternoon In the Eagles' hall, with Bishop William McMillan of the Twenty-eighth ward presiding. Services will be held under the auspices of the local Eagles' lodge. Interment will be in tho Cottonwood cemetery. |
