Show H YORKER I? sura GLASS Russell C. Leffingwell Reported Re-ported as Possible New Treasury Chief. (Chicago Tribune Special Service.) WASHINGTON, Nov. It seems to be assured that when the senate reassembles re-assembles in December President Wilson Wil-son will lay before it for confirmation the nomination of Russell Cornell Leffingwell Lef-fingwell of New York to be secretary of the treasury in success to Carter Glass of Virginia, who has resigned to accept tho appointment of senator from his state. Mr. Leffingwell is now one of the assistant secretaries of the treasury. treas-ury. The fact that Mr. Leffingwell's law partners have affiliated with the Republican Repub-lican party has led to tho report that he is a Republican, but it is understood that Mr. Leffingwell has not taken any part in politics. In the consideration of his name, President Wilson and those with whom he has advised are said to have been of the opinion that under present conditions the necessity of continuing the work of the treasury department without a change of policy rises superior to political considerations. Mr. Leffingwell has the cordial support sup-port of Secretary Glass and is understood under-stood to h&re been indorsed alto by former for-mer Secretary McAdoo. In the best informed in-formed administration circles little doubt is felt that Mr. Leffingwell's appointment appoint-ment as secretary of the treasury will be-made. be-made. There is also reason to believe that Bernard M. Barueh of New York is being be-ing urged by the administration to accept ac-cept the office of secretary of commerce left vacant by the resignation of William C. Redfield of New York. Mr. Barueh once declined the president's tender of the treasury portfolio, taking the ground that he had too great wealth and his financial interests were too extensive to justify the wisdom of his taking the treasury position. President Wlison is known to have a very high regard for Mr. Baruch's ability abil-ity and is deeply grateful to him for his Services as chairman of the war Industries Indus-tries board In Washington and as one of the economic advisers of the American Ameri-can peace conference in Paris. In official of-ficial circles the belief prevails that Mr. Barueh will enter the cabinet as secretary secre-tary of commerce. Russell Cornell Leffingwell is -11 years old. He is a member Of the law firm of Cravath A Henderson of New York, with i which he has been associated about ten j years. He ifc a Yale graduate, and after graduation took a law course and then began the practice of his profession in ; New York.
