Show LONGEVITY. Statistics compiled by the United States bureau of census tend to prove that, although women are called tho "weaker vessel," they are far ahead of men in point of longevity. They have been proved to be more resistant resist-ant to diseases than men, and live longer. Tabulations show that out of 1000 girls born into the world 750 live to reach the marriageable age of 18. Out of 1000 boys only 700 survive that long an excess of 50 deaths among boys. Of the boys, 250 will live to be 69 years old, but 50 of the girls will safely pass their seventy-second birthday. birth-day. Xearly five boys die to every four girls in the first month of life. Out of 1000 boys born during the present year one-half will be dead in 1971. Out of 1000 girls born this year, one-half will he living in 1976. Why natur so arranges matters the bureau does not attempt to explain. Apparently, she tries to make up for it to some extent by bringing into the world 1043 boy babies to every 1000 girl babies. This excess, however, is not sufficient, as it is shown that there is actually a majority of girls before the second year of life is reached. Incidentally there has been an inquiry in-quiry into the authenticity of the ages of a number of persons reported to be "125 years old," or to have reached even greater ages. The conclusion reached by the bureau is that while tho age of 106 years is possible for a human hu-man being, no man or woman has ever reached his or her 107th birthday, all stories to the contrary notwithstanding. |
