Show TO DELE DISTRICT PVipiS Jesse Knight of Provo Plans to Work Claims East of Town, Report Says. Uncle Jesse Knight of Provo Is reported report-ed to have become interested in the development de-velopment of several groups of mining claims located in Middle and Settlement canyons, in the Tintic district, and that active operations are now progressing. It is said, according to the Tooele Bulletin, that the Knight Investment company, of which Jedse Knight is the leading spirit, has taken an option on the Black Diamond group of claims in Middle canyon from J. A. Kauffman, and on the Bingham Midway group in Settlement canyon from O. E. Parsons and associates. There are now two shifts of four men each working on the Black Diamond group in Middle canyon, driving a tunnel to connect con-nect with the Bingham Midway group in Settlement canyon, from which Mr. Parsons Par-sons made several shipments of ore. Mr. Knight has had his . engineers make tin examination of the property, and they are of the opinion that the Bingham ore bodiea continue through the mountain and can be found on the Tooele side of the range, and, with extensive development develop-ment work, large ore bodies are expected to be enoountered. The opinion of the mining experts is borne out by the fact that ores in the Bingham mines just over the mountain extend this way. Another reason on which to base this opinion is that the same limestone in which the ore bodies are found in Bingham runs through the groups of claims tn which Mr. Knight is Interested. The presence of Mr. Knight in the development de-velopment operations alone means much for the future of Tooele, as Mr. Knight Is considered a careful operator, and his decision to enter a field would indicate a very- favorable possibility of ore bodies being opened up, as he will give the territory ter-ritory a thorough exploration. The development devel-opment of the property will be watched with interest by the mining world, as well as the people of Tooele. It is said that in spring work Will be started on the Settlement canyon side to drive under the mountain and connect with the work now going on in Middle canyon. Outside of the Utah Metals tunnel, tun-nel, this will be the first deep mining done on this side of the mountain in the same limestone belts in which the ore bodies are found on the Bingham side. At Ophir, where operations with a diamond dia-mond drill have been in progress since last spring, rumors of a big strike having been made are current there. While those in charge of the operations will not divulge anything definite regarding the strike, they say they are well pleased with the results of the prospecting done with the diamond drill. The rumor is to the effect that the drill went through sixty feet of ore similar simi-lar to that found in the Ophir Hill mine at depth between 750 and 1000 feet below the surface. The Ophir Metals Mining company, which has a group of claims on Lion hill, had a compressor and other machinery recently installed and is getting ready for an extensive development campaign. |
