DePalma lost approximately 40 minutes min-utes and finished sixth 30 minutes behind be-hind tho winner. His first stop wu due to a broken valve snringr can, and this cost him slightly more than 15 minutes. This was at the halfway point when he had a good lead. At that point he also had a broken front wheel bearing which forced him to stop later with a loss of 22 minutes while putting put-ting in a new bearing. In the last 25 miles of the race he ran from 14th position to 6th position. His friends are convinced that he was the best man in the race. Outside of the valvu spring cap he had no engine trouble whatever, and credits much of this to Eccolene.' |
