Show CHANGE OF BUTCHERS IS POPULAR PASTIME Is Result of Merry Mbcup Between tha Dealers and the Consumers in London. .LONDON, June 21. (By the Associated Asso-ciated Press.) Nearly everyone in England has changed butchers in the past few weeks or is doing so now. When strict rationing -was in force each householder was compelled to register reg-ister with one butcher and buy all meat from him. People were standing in line for the butcher's supplies, his hoppers hop-pers were cleaned every day before his customers could get what they wanted, and he was irritated at price and allotment. allot-ment. A few sharp words and soon the butcher and the consumer were hardly on speaking terms. This went on during dur-ing the war because the butcher, if he I had meat, was forced to supply the t registrant; he could not overcharge j him and the registrant was forced to purchase from that butcher. The result was that when the government gov-ernment decided that householders could register with another firm nearlv everybody did. Thev all calculated they could not injure their position. The consumer is no longer required to give coupons for meat, butter and sugar. Tho grocer and the butcher still are rationed, however, and they I deal out to their customers about the j same amount delivered to them when coupons were required. ine supplies to the retailers are rapidly rap-idly being increased. The food minister minis-ter promises that it will not be long until one of the most necessary but most irksomo systems of the war will hava ended and the coupon cook be discarded. |
