Show TELEGRAPH WORKERS TO RECEIVE BACK PAY Western Union Announces Intention to Keep Agreement Agree-ment of Last July. Western Union employees are to receive re-ceive retroactive pay in the amount that would have accrued had the agreement agree-ment entered into by the employees' association and the company last July become effective, according to word received re-ceived at the local office last night from President Joseph P. Hayes of the Western Union Employees ' association. The agreement called for an increase in wages, effective August 1, but when the government assumed control of the lines, Postmaster General Burleson did not see fit to grant such an increase. In February, however, the wage scale was advanced 10 to 5 per cent, according accord-ing to length of -service, but the increase in-crease was made effective from January Janu-ary 1 only. The bulletin received last night states that President Kewcomb Carlton of the Western Union company has advised the employees' association that the company, out of its own funds, will pay the retroactive increase under the terms of the July agreement. The payment pay-ment is to be made as soon as possible, pos-sible, but some time will be required to complete the necessary accounting. |
