!M0ST OIL WELLS HAVE Ml FL01 Averag-e dally production of the 225,000 oil 'wells in the United States is placed at four and one-half barrels by the "Lamp," Standard Oil Company of New Jersey's monthly magazine, says the Boston News Bureau. Thousand of wells I In the older fields produce less than one-! one-! quarter of a barrel dally, while something like four-fifths of the total yield less than a barrel each. Public Interest centers in north and central Texas, particularly the Kurkbur-nett. Kurkbur-nett. Hanger and Stephens county pools. I Of these, the Burkburnett pool is perhaps j most spectacular. The original field on j the Texas-Oklahoma line was discovered i in 1912. It had long been out of the public eye when, in July last, the first well was drilled in what is now known as the Burkburnett town site pool, two miles from the older field. This well came In a gusher at about 1700 feet, and was the forerunner of an immense amount of new work and production. Today the townsite pool has an area of at least loOit acres and has produced close to 7,000,000 barrels of oil. What is probably the most promising producing area in the country Is Ranger district. North and south it extends over sixty miles, while east and west it Is twenty miles across at Us widest point. It Is not to be supposed that all of this area will lie productive, but there Is little lit-tle doubt but that a great deal more of it will he proved than is now Included in the four great pools already opened in it the Ranger, Caddo. Hreckenridge and Duke pools. In the Ranger pool 211 wolls have been drilled, of which forty-two were dry. The remaining 172 are producing 70.000 barrels of oil a day and their totnl production pro-duction hnri been around 1 2.000.000 bar-j bar-j re Is. Some of these wells "came In" with j a production of less than ten barrels a day ; other's produced 50n.i to 12,000 bn r-re!s. r-re!s. Average initial production was '-'.s barrel? to the well, while present average production is 407 barrels daily.
