Korty-one War Savings societies have hecn organized iu Salt. Laie City since the drive for organization of these societies so-cieties was commenced recently by the committee headed by Frank A. Fisher. 'J'liis is about Id per cent of the total quota for the city, but the manner in which the idea has been taken hold of by the various business concerns is assurance to Mr. Fisher and to the members mem-bers of the war savings committees that Salt Lake and the state of Utah will do their full share in the war savings sav-ings society line. The total quota of societies allotted to Vtah is 14S4 and about 10 per cent of this total has been organized in various va-rious sections of the state, according to reports received at war savings headquarters head-quarters at the Commercial club. Drug Company Forms Unit. An important organization that took place yesterday was that of the employees of the Schramm-Johuson Prug company. The 125 employees of this company organized four societies. The company made the offer to its employees to give to each of them one thrift stamp for every four they buy with their savings. In this manner the company intends to encourage thrift among its employees and to aid the government. This contribution of one thrift stamp, valued at -5 cents, for each dollar s worth bought by the employees, will take the place of a cash bonus to employees em-ployees of the company. The Salt Lake Hardware company has organized a society with 300 members mem-bers and Walker Brothers Dry Goods store has organized with 300 members. The Salt Lake fire department has organized or-ganized a society and has purchased $140n worth of stamps already. Chief W. H. By-water is president of this society. President Eobert X. Young of the society so-ciety which was recently formed by employees of the city, reported yesterday yester-day that the employees have purchased 2000 worth of stamps in two days. This is considered a most excellent showing by the war savings officials. Tooele Active in Work. Seven war savings societies have been organized among the 1000 employees of the International Smelting & Refining company at Tooele, according to a report re-port brought to the city yesterday by James W. Collins, chairman of" the state war savings committee, who was present at the organization of the Tooele societies.
