Show ! OIL SECTION FORMED BIT MIHIKJCDHGHESS Utah Chapter Would Omit Shale and Sand From Leasing Bills. To foster the oil industry now in its infancy in Utah, particularly that branch pertaining to development by mining methods, an oil section of the Utah Chapter of the American Mining Congress was formed at a meeting of representative oil men of the state. The -meeting was held at the headquarters of the Utah, chapter in. the Boston building build-ing and the interests concerned in the development of oil shale and oil sand deposits were particularly well represented. repre-sented. The officers of the temporary organization, organi-zation, selected at a meeting earlier in the week, were named as officers of the permanent organization. VV. H. Child was elected chairman, and A. V. Taylor was chosen secretary. In addition to the officers of the temporary organization, organiza-tion, J. J. Movers was selected as treasurer of the" oil section. An executive execu-tive committee also was named, comprising,! com-prising,! besides the officers, O. W. Swing, Sw-ing, J. IR. Hibbs, B. M. Stewart and J. M. Russell of Roosevelt. The organization of the oil section was due largely to the movement now under way in other sections of the west to have oil shale and oil sand lands excluded from the operations of the oil leasing bills now pending in congress. con-gress. A resolution protesting against the inclusion of oil shale and oil sand lands in the operation of the bills, was adopted by the local oil men at their preliminary meeting several days ago. A committee was appointed yesterday yester-day to compile data with reference to the oil shale and oil snnd resources of the state in order that the matter might be presented to the authorities in Washington in an intelligent and coherent coher-ent manner. In the meantime the Utah congressional delegation will be bombarded bom-barded with letters from the individual oil men of the state setting forth the sentiments expressed at the two meetings meet-ings and outlined in the resolution of protest. The next meeting of the new organization organi-zation is scheduled for 3 0 'clock -next Friday afternoon and is to be held at the headquarters of the Utah chapter of the American Mining Congress, 305 Boston building. At that meeting the report of the committee designated to compile data with reference to oil shale and oil sands is expected to file its report re-port and some plan of concerted action is to be outlined to properly present the matter to the federal officials at Washington.
