The Central American Sugar & Cattle Cat-tle company, a million dollar concern operating in the republic of Panama and headed by local financiers, will incorporate in-corporate in Utah within the net few days. The officers of the company have not as yet been announced, but among, the heavy stockholders are former Governor Gov-ernor 'William Sprv, W. S. McCornick, 1.. B. McCornick. ft. 11. Woollev and H. . Macmillan, all of Salt Lake; Leo Neilsen of Logan and San Francisco and New York capitalists. The company controls 40,000 acres lying north of the San Kogue river, with about twenty miles of coast line on the Caribbean 'sea. Tho property is cont.-olled bv practically the same interests in-terests as the Panama-American Sugar company, which was incorporated hero several 'weeks ago. The Central American Ameri-can property lies between the holdings of the Panama-American Sugar company com-pany and those of the United FTuit company in Panama. It also is near what are believed to be extensive oil deposits. Tho greater part of tho property is made up of what is classed as wild land, although small tracts in some districts have been cultivated in a primitive way bv natives. It is estimated that nearly 10,000 cocoanuts are being taken from tie rropertv at. present and there is a small production of bananas and coffee. 'The company plans to engage in cattle cat-tle raising o:i" a big scale and at tho same time begin the development of the sugar resources. Later It is planned to eugage in the raising of cocoanuts, bananas ba-nanas and coffee on an extensive sealo. From reports made to the federal government gov-ernment and from information gathered for the Utah men bv special representatives represent-atives on the ground, the tract is espe cially auapien to colouuul " though sugar cane and all tropical crops yield abundantly. The problem of transportation is solved to a great extent by the San Rogue river, which forms the (southern boundary of the tract and is navigable by ocean freighters for a distance ofl about fourteen miles. The establishment establish-ment of a line of boats has not yet en-terel en-terel into the plans of the new owners anil probably will not be seriously considered con-sidered until traffic has been developed. |
