Show THIERICHENS' TRIAL FORMALLY OPENED PHILADELPHIA. Sept. 27. Captain Max V. Thierlchens, former commander of the German sea raider Prlnz Eitel Friedricb. was placed on trial In the federal fed-eral district court today, charged with violating the Mann act by bringing a woman from Ithaca, N. Y., to Philadelphia Philadel-phia for improper purposes. Counsel vainly sought to have the trial deferred until after the war, on the ground that Captain Thierlchens could not get a fair trial. Captain Thierlchens is also under indictments in-dictments charging him with smuggling dutiable chronometers from his ship and violating the postal laws in sending improper im-proper letters to a school teacher in Saginaw, Sagi-naw, Mich. |
