Show CITY SAID TO BE IKTIE LI Insurance of Employees Is Charged to Be Illegally i Placed. That the city of Salt Lake, in providing provid-ing compensation insurance for its employees, em-ployees, is violating the law as laid down in the- workmen's compensation act, is the accusation of the industrial commission. It is alleged by the industrial indus-trial commission that the city has turned over its liability concerning the paying of compensation insurance to the Guardian Casualty company, contrary con-trary to the law, which provides that every county, city, town or school district dis-trict shall either carry its own insurance or carry a policy with the state insurance insur-ance fund. That the law is being violated came to the attention of the industrial commission com-mission yesterday when L. V. Bauman, son of Jacob Bauman, a street employee of the city who was killed by an automobile auto-mobile September 13 while in the pursuit pur-suit of his duty, complained to Harrison E. Jenkins, director of the state insurance insur-ance fund, that when application for settlement on account of the death of his father -was made to the city authorities authori-ties he was directed to take up the matter mat-ter with the Guardian Casualty com-panv, com-panv, which, under arrangement with the "city, carried the liability to pay to Bauman 's-wMow $7 per week for 312 weeks. It, is stated by the industrial commission com-mission that on June 25 the city commission com-mission passed a resolution that the city should carry its own risks. Under the law it may either carry its own insurance in-surance or carry a policy with the state insurance fund. The city commission has been advised by the state industrial commission that in shifting its liability to an insurance concern other than (lie state insurance "fund it is violating the provisions of the workmen 's compensation act. |
