Show HASBROUCK WITNESS OF TRENCH ATTACK Commander Pleased With Manner in Which Fort-third Fort-third Was Handled. ; Colonel Alfred Hasbrouck, post . commander com-mander at Fort Douglas, was an interested inter-ested observer yesterday morning of the work of the Forty-third infantry In. its demonstration of trench attack. The colonel expressed to Colonel William R. Daahiell. commanding the regiment, his approval of the manner in which the regiment regi-ment handled Itself in the solution of the tactical problem submitted to it. The atta,ck maneuvers were also witnessed wit-nessed by Captain Henri Bloch, a French officer who is detailed as instructor at the post; by the field officers of the Forty-third and by a considerable number of people who drove out from the city at the earlv hour to witness a realistic demonstration dem-onstration of how a regiment on me battle bat-tle front makes an attack upon enemy trenches. The attack ves terday morning was led bv the Second' battalion of the regiment, supported bv the Third battalion and with the First battalion acting as reserve re-serve forces In the rear trencnee. The various battalions performed their particular par-ticular functions in the movements with precision and order and in a manner that won the praise of Captain Bloch. Following the trench attack the Third battalion appeared tn battalion parade and won high praise from the regimental commander and other observing officers for Its excellent work In marching. The time of year for heavier uniform clothing having about arrived. Colonel Hasbrouck, popt commander, issued a formal order yesterday prescribing O. D. wool as the regulation uniform for the post and field on and after September V,0 (next Sunday.;. Up to the present the i khaki has been the regulation uniform for drill and post duty, but the coolness of the temperature calls for heavier clothing and the woolen uniforms will be gotten out for dally use the first of the we1!. An order' has already been issued permitting the wearing of sweaters within with-in the reservation limits. The Twentieth infantry commenced record firing on the target range yester-dav yester-dav morning and expects to have it completed com-pleted hy the end of this week. If this is possible, the Forty-second Infantry will go to the target ramie Mmid.-iy morning for preliminary and record firing. The nin of th Forty-second have been having instruction practice on gallery ranges .tust northeasr of the cantonments for a week or ten days past and are in ipadiness for the preliminary uork to be b"cun on the" range Monday.
