Show WAR GARDEN DISPLAY ENGAGES ATTENTION Many Parents and Otheyc Inspect Exhibit Ex-hibit of Work of Sumner School PupfU The halls of the Sumner school on Sixth South and Third East streets were a scene of activity yesterday when parents par-ents ot the 700 pupils in attendance at tho school made a visit to the war garden exhibit. The exhibit was replete with interesting interest-ing objects. All the products shown were grown by the pupils themselves in their owe. home gardens. Included in the display were flowers, fruits and vegetables" vege-tables" of every variety, preservec; fruits and vegetables and birds and poultry. Principal J. Challen Smith said yesier-dav yesier-dav that the exhibit was a source of much gratification to Mm, inasmuch as it was the first time anything of the kind had been attempted, and It wm thoi-cughlv successful both in providing occuoatloh for the children outside of scnool hours and in stimulating a d'je consideration for the matter of lood economy. , ,, , .,, pnzis for the best five exhibits will be awarded today. The winners will receive re-ceive colored ribbons. The exhibits which capture the prizes will be taken tc. the Utah state fair today and will be displayed in the war garden section. Among other visitors to the scliool vesterdav was Dr. E. A. Smith, city perlntf.rdent of public Instruction, who commented very favorably on the lnter-estin-- work done by the children. |
