Show GITYTG FURFO ? Will Equip Five Graduates for Battle Fields of France. OTHERS NEED MONEY Patriotic Citizens Expected to Furnish Uniforms and Funds. To supply necessary uniforms, equipment equip-ment and war duty clothing for the members of the first unit of Red Cross emergency detachment nurses to go from-Salt from-Salt Lake to the French battle front for the English government next month the sum of $1000 is needed, In additon, $1000 more is needed to defray traveling expenses from Salt Lake to New York, but this amount will be refunded by the American Hed Cross organization afte-j the nurses arrive in New York, so that the money is only needed in the form of a temporary advance. In view of the fact that five of the ten nurses who will go from Salt Lake in the first unit will be nurses now in the employ of the Salt Lake health department, de-partment, it is probable that the city will equip these five, under the new law passed by the last legislature, which permits the use of city funds for "necessary" "nec-essary" purposes not strictly civic in nature. City Nurses to Go. It is pointed out that in view of the fact that the city will be furnishing the nurses from its own forces it would be entirely proper and appropriate appro-priate for it to "expend enough money to equip all nurses selected to go to the front from here. City officials admit that it is the patriotic 'duty of the city to do at least this much for the nurses who have been rendering such efficient service and who will go as representatives of Salt Lake to the French battle fields to carry succor suc-cor and aid to the wounded American, English and French soldiers at the front. Equipment Needed. It is pointed out, however, that if the citv equios five nurses there will stiil be five more to be equipped and $500 will be needed for this purpose. It is thought, however, by those interested in getting Salt Lake represented in the first detachment of Bed Cross nurses to go to the front, that there are patriotic patri-otic citizens of means who are -unable to serve their country in other ways who will be glad to come forward with the money to supply the nurses with uniforms and equipment to aid them in rendering the service to the country that those giving the money are unable to render. , Chance for Patriots. It is pointed out that in helping to furnish the young women with equipment, equip-ment, those who do so will not only be serving their country, but will be helping help-ing the voung women in the most effective ef-fective manner possible. All of the voung women who will constitute the first unit to go from Salt Lake are working nurses, dependent upon their earnings for support of themselves. them-selves. They have not the ready money to fit themselves out on quick notice. |
