Show II 6000 CfilTIOi I Statement Made by Secretary Secre-tary W. D. Livingston of Optimistic Trend. "William D. T-.ivingsion, secretary of the Deseret Mountain Mines company, operating oper-ating in the Deseret mountains of Juab county, yesterday made the following official of-ficial statement: During the past year, and especially trio last three months, some rine progress prog-ress has been made at t he Deseret Mountain mine. Ten to fifteen men have been constantly employed in the workings, under the able direction of P. E. McFlierson, mining: engineer, who spends all his time at the mine. The drifts have been extended in both directions on the main ore body, which has continued to show improvement. im-provement. These drifts have followed fol-lowed the hanging wall. Two crosscuts cross-cuts have been made on the vein, the first one near the bottom of shaft No. 1 and the other near the present face of the north drift, about ISO feet distant. The first proved the vein to be at least twenty feet wide, and samples taken across the entire twenty twen-ty feet showed an average of Ji (.-er cent copper, with a streak of high grade four and one-half feet wide next to the hanging wall and another streak of high grade eighteen inches wide near the center of the vein, the latter being a malachite carrying over 30 per cent copper. The second crosscut was still being driven when I visited the mine a few days ago. A width of twentv-nve feet was then shown, with no foot wall in sight. Mr. McPherson was very highly elated elat-ed with the increased width of the vein, as well as with the formation. Re said positively that the condition meant ore for the entire width of the vein, with sufficient depth. Other engineers concur in this opinion. The eighteen-inch streak of high gmcle showed here also and the four-foot lead of high grade was followed through the entire drift. This vein has proven continuous with 600 feet of underground workings. The management believes beyond the question of a doubt that the speculative stage with the Deseret Mountain is a thing of the past: that ir is now practically proven that it is to be one of the big mines of the state: that it is only a matter of detail de-tail now in carrying out the programme pro-gramme mapped out just the same as with any business enterprise. Everything Ev-erything is being done with the idea, of permanency and economy. The new machinery, as it is being set up at shaft Xo. 2. has stimulated the highest quality of praise from all who have seen it: it has likewise engendered engen-dered profound confidence in the eond faith of the management- The shaft is being enlarged and timbered to serve as a safe, satisfactory and permanent avenue for the mine's traffic. Assurances from the Green Machinery & Engineering company, whose expert is at the mine overlooking overlook-ing the installation, lead us to believe be-lieve the air drills will be in operation in ten days. Another ten days should then finish the enlargement of the shaft to the 127-foot level. Then regular shipments of ore begin, and there should be nothing thereafter -to hinder a steady flow of ore to the smelters. |
