Show SUNFLOWER TUNNEL SHOWS IMPROVEMENT ROCHESTER. Nev.. Feb. 22. A marked improvement in fize and character of the vein In the Sunflower tunnel of the Rochester United company on Sunflower hill is reported. This tunnel is beinp driven to open tho downward projection of the rich bodv of ore that yielded twenty-two tons from a twenty-five-foot shaft that averaged $47.66 per ton at the Western West-ern Sampling: Works, the values in tills lot belnp almost entirely gold. Further southwest, about 7 SO feet alonpr the slope of the hill and at an additional depth of 3M feet, this company -lias driven the Silver King tunnel 2on tet and has now started crosscuts easterly and westerly from tills point to open the Sunflower Sun-flower and other veins on this portion of Its territory, which comprises 24 A acres abut tint; on the Rochester Merger and Rochester Wines property. Oars a nd track for this work have been received in Rochester and will soon be installed. Facilities have been completed and are now In operation for brinping all of t he ore and other material mined below the "transportation"' tunnel of the Rochester Mines company to the surface through the Friedman tunnel by means of the raise that is known as the '"Oodd" or 3 1 winze. Extensive drifting and stopinsr have hen done from this and tiie Big Four or 32 winze, the material bavinp until recently re-cently been hoisted to the "transportation" "transporta-tion" tunnel level and the ore sent down tiie hill to the ore bins at the head of the Nevada Short Iine railroad by the old surface tramway. The new method will great ly reduce mining costs, and transportation costs to the mill, over two miles away, t ill be cut in two when the new aerial tramway, which is now nearing: completion, supplants hauling by railroad, the service of which has been erratic and expensive. The mine is showing show-ing laree bodies of good ore both above and below the transportation tunnel level. This new project, covering nearly "n acres between the Rochester Mines, Rochester Roch-ester United and Nevada Fackard, is rapidly rap-idly shaping up for big work. Air compressor, com-pressor, machine drills and other substantial sub-stantial equipment are being installed on the Shepherd No. 1 claim at the Tack-a Tack-a rd end of the property, and development develop-ment is befng pushed here and at other points where good showincs have been exposed. ex-posed. The working force will be greatly great-ly increased in prospecting and development develop-ment when more favorable weather arrives. |
