Show POLICE HOLD TWO FOR INVESTIGATION Visitor Locked Up for Safe Keeping Pending Profee Into Attempt to Obtain His Property. Perkins, a soldier stationed at Fort Liouglas, are bfing held by the police while they investigate their attempt early yesterday evening to secure the KTip and other valuables of A. T. Daizell, a guest at the Xewhouse hotel, who registered from fait Lake, but who is said by the police to come from ile-Cammon, ile-Cammon, Idaho. Daizell also is detained at the city prison for safe keeping, according to the police. Daizell registered at the Xewhouse hotel yesterday morning, and while wandering aboii t the citv met Jackson and Perkins. He told them, according to the theory of the police, that he had left his grip" and money and other valuables val-uables at the Xewhouse hotel and that later in the evening thev would all see. the "bright lights" of Salt Lake together. A policeman, noticing the trio and taking note of the apparel of tho soldier and his friend as compared to that of Daizell, took the latter to the police station for safe keeping. Hardly had he lodged his man in the city jail when a call came from the Xewhouse hotel clerk to the effect that two men, one of them attired in the uniform of a soldier, were endeavoring to secure the grip and money of a guest of the hotel. Daizell had left no monev at the hotel, according to the clerk, and it was this fact that caused the police to be notified. Both Jackson and Per-kins Per-kins were charged with Intoxication, but instructions were left to hold them for investigation, which will take place this morning. Nothing is known of Jackson bv the police, but officers at Fort Douglas said last night Perkins was apparently a recruit who might have come from Idaho, Montana or even enlisted in this state. Eecords of his enlistment were not available last, night. Perkins told the police last night that he had known Daizell in Nevada. |
