Show M'HDDOil SOLVE SLABPRDBLEM Giants Depend on Jimmy Middleton and Yanks on Ray Caldwell. By International News Service. NEW YORK, Feb. 22. Early season plans for the handling of the Giant and Yankee pitching staffs depend largely on two slabmen. One of these hurlers is Jimmy Middle-ton, Middle-ton, obtained by Manager McGraw for the Giants from Louisville. The other is lanky Ray Caldwell, the eccentric Yankee sharpshooter. If Middleton comes up to expectations a heavy load w;ll be lifted from Mc-Graw's Mc-Graw's mind, for he believes that with one more dependable pitcher the Giants' staff wi!l be assured. Manager Bill Donovan of the Yankees is depending largely on Caldwell's promise prom-ise to report to the club at Macon, Ga., and work hard in order to fit himself for a strenuous season. The advance guard of the Giants will leave here far Marlin, Tex., tomorrow and on Saturday the Yankees battery men will depart for Macon. |
