Iron and steel are the most important of all the metals imported into India, forming 95 per cent of the total. In the previous year. The exports to the former principal " customers the United States and France were reduced by 26,103 tons and 26.326 tons to 47.400 tons and 20,000 tons, respectively. The average declared value per ton was $5.70, against $5.55 in 1914-15. Wolfram or was exported to the amount of 2787 tons, valued at $1,751,900. against 1916 tons, valued at $43,500, in 1914-15. The largest customer is the I'nited Kingdom, which took 2617 tons, valued at $1,654,600, against 1118 tons in 1914-15. The average declared value was $624 a ton, against $446 in 1914-15, an increase in-crease of 40 per cent. Bead is produced from the Bawdin mines in Burma. The amount of lead extracted ex-tracted in 1914 was 10.54S tons, against 5S5S tons in 1913. The output of the ore at the mines in 1915- IS was far larger than in the previous year, as will be seen from the figures of exports, namely, 10.S4S tons, valued at $1.16M00, against 651$ tons, valued at $.551,500. The shipments went chiefly to the T'nited Kingdom and t 'eylon. Russia, Hongkong:, and Japan also figured in the trade.
