Show THREE NEGROES HOLD UP POT TRAIN Cne Is Captured and Others Are Surrounded in Swamp Near Memphis, Tenn. MEMPHIS, Tenn., Feb. 22. Three nezro highwaymen held up a southbound Illinois Central passencer train, known as the Ctihan Special, at East Junction, several miles south of this city, shortly after midnight. It la not believed they obtained any loot. Tlie holdup was reported by a tower-man, tower-man, who from his station witnessed the j attempted robbery. His report started j a posse of policemen to the scene, with the result that one of the robber? was captured after a bloodless exchange of siiots and the other two negroes were surrounded in a swamp. A telephone message from East Junction Junc-tion shortly before 2 o'clock stated that the two men who were driven into the underbrush near the railroad track had evaded the posse and it was believed had escaped. The necrroes are believed to have boarded the train before it left this citj-. When the train reached East Junction, the engineer stated, two of the men crawled over the tender of the engine and ordered him to stop the train. He complied, com-plied, but called for help. Other members mem-bers of the crew and railroad employees at the junction came to his aid and put the highwaymen to flight, driving them into h. growth of bushes, from which one was captured after the arrival of the police. po-lice.
