Show THAW HELPS CLEAN STREETS OF REFUSE Yesterday's thaw in the city was almost al-most as satisfactory as if arranged ac- ; cording to order, said Commissioner Ue- j her M. "Wells of the street department last, night. While there was some com-plaint com-plaint of flooded sidewalks, intersections i and premises, they were not of so se- j rious a nature as those that occupied the attention of the street department I Tuesday afternoon. j In the business section of the city flushers were used to wash from the ! pavement the refuse that had aecumu- lated during the past several weeks of traffic over the snow. The gutters were running more freely yesterday, the running run-ning water having cut channels through the ice in many places and affording the much needed drainage. Sut'h complaints as were made to the street department met with response from the regular emergency gang of the department, in so far as it was possible to give relief from the flood waters. |
