"The sentiment in favor of President Wilson 'because he has kept us out of war' is purely emotional and exists chiefly among the women voters. When It is explained that the president has not kept us out of war, because we do not want war and no other country wants war with us. but has made war possible by sending troops into Mexico, the emotional emo-tional sentiment wanes rapidly. "Then there has been, and Is yet in some quarters, sentiment in favor of the president among the laboring men on account ac-count of the eight-hour law. Hut there are two sides to this question. If the president has the right to tell the employers em-ployers what wages they shall pay and what hours the men shall work, he also has the power to tell the working men what wages they shall receive and what hours they shall work." Senator Jones left here at midnight last night with Chairman Sanford of the Nevada Ne-vada state Republican committee- for Las Vegas, where he is scheduled to talk tonight. to-night. Chairman Sanford announced that while the race for the national ticket would be close in Nevada, he believed that it would be carried by Governor Hughes and that the Republican candidates for the United States senate and the lower house would be elected. |
