At your Druggist, 50c. (Advertisement.) TO THE PUBLIC The Electrical Workers Are Out Again on Their Semi-Annual Strike. Their peerless leader having decided that too much work without interruption interrup-tion would not be good for the bovs, has created enough discontent to cause them to strike. Ho that the public may know,, the contractors wish to make known the facts in the case. On April 29th, this year, the contractors signed an agreement with local No. 3o setting forth wages and conditions for one year. Among other things in this agreement there is a clause which states that members mem-bers of the local uuion will not be allowed al-lowed to do contracting or work for contractors who themselves use the tools. This article has been repeatedly violated by the local union while the contractors have steadfastly lived up to the agreement to the letter. The contractors con-tractors have made numerous appeals to the union to rectify these violations, and have been unable to got any consideration. con-sideration. The present trouble is the culmination culmina-tion of a strenuous effort on the part of the leaders to create a feeling of unrest and discontent among the employees in the manufacturing departments of the various electrical firms. These employees em-ployees were and are satisfied, and at any time they had a grievance the companies com-panies have always been glad to settle it without any trouble and agreeably to both sides. The trouble makers were only successful in getting .twelve of these shop men to quit their jobs on Wednesday, Wednes-day, October 4th, at noon, nt which time an agreement was presented to the employers em-ployers which would make the successful continuation of business impossible if entered into. The agreement as presented pre-sented was intended to control teamsters, team-sters, sheet metalworkers, painters, machinists, ma-chinists, automobile repairmen and manv others entirely foreign to the electrical industry and not in the jurisdiction of the Electrical Workers' union. When todav it was apparent to the leaders that an agreement, which would be unfair to the shop employees, who are not desirous desir-ous of being forced into the union, could not be reached they forced the! insiile-wiremen insiile-wiremen of the city out on a sympathetic sympathet-ic strike. The contractors wish to make it plain to the public that the wircmeu have presented no grievaiu-e, but were forced to act according to the dictates of their leaders. . " , Another fact that the. contractors wish to call attention to is that there are only three companies in the state of Utah who have continuously employed union meir; viz., the "Inter-Mountain Electric Co.. The Salt Lake Electric 8uflply Co. and Eardley Bros. Co. As a result of this condition about sixtv per cent, of the work is being (i,10 i,v non-union men. The lenders of this movement could spend their time, to better bet-ter advantage in organizing the trade and if such were done the contractors would be in a better position to meet their demands as competition would then be on a fair basis.
