Show SCOn SELECTED TO LEAD BW BIO Salt Lake Agent to Get Organization in Shape for Celebration, Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, Oct. 16. Organization of the Southern Pacific band, composed largely of men -employed at the lotil railroad shops, has been perfected with the selection selec-tion of F. E. Scott of Salt Lake as director. di-rector. G. B. Hart is president of the new musical organization ; Arian Schip-per, Schip-per, secretary; O. G. Hamlyn treasurer, and Stephen Amsler, llhrarian. The new band at the present time comprises forty-seven forty-seven instruments. Mr. Scott, who has had many years' experience a s director of ha mis is fun eral freight and passenger agent of the Southern Pacific at Salt Lake, he bavins recently succeeded C. L. McFaul. Until he left Sail Francisco he was director of the California Grays, champion amateur band on the Pacific coast. The band won much praise by its several engagements at the Panama-Pacific exposition. It was during his early yeans in Scotland Scot-land that the railroad man took up music and developed Into a cornet soloist. Later, as a resident of England, he was director direc-tor of fhe Luton Red Cross band and master of the Battersea Prize band. In all his musical work Mr. Scott lias retained re-tained his standing as an amateur musician mu-sician and is said to be the only band leader in the United States recognized as such by the international musicians' union. One of the principal objects in organizing organiz-ing the local band is to develop the organization or-ganization for the proposed railroad exposition ex-position here in UU9. |
