Show TRYING TO ARRANGE OFFICERS' HOLIDAYS Chief of Police J. Parley White Contemplates Con-templates Obtaining One Day Off in Each Two Weeks. Action looking toward city policemen obtaining holidays is likely to be taken by J. Parley VVhite, chief of police, next week, according to a statement he made yesterday. Chief AVhite said that he had given the matter considerable attention since it was first broached about twro months ago. He admitted that the policemen were presenting just claims, and he wished he could strain a point to give them what he declared they are entitled en-titled to. He said the proposal was recently made that the policemen should have one day off in seven. He regretted that he would be unable to petition the commissioners com-missioners to that effect. However, he certainly would advance the argument that the policemen should have at least one day off in every fourteen. It was explained by the chief that the commissioners are averse to increasing increas-ing the force. He said that he was planning to arrange the various beats and map out certain details which would allow the men getting one day off in a fortnight without impairing the efficiency of the force. He thought that greater efticiencv would prevail when the holiday he will seek is granted his men. |
