Show CHILEANS OF NOTE PAY CITY A VISIT Member of Party Says Time Is Here for Closer Business Relations With United States. Prominent citizens of Chile, including the Chilean consul at San Francisco, arrived ar-rived in the city yesterday on their way home from New York. Thev went to the American metropolis by steamer through the Panama canal and are now returning home by way of tho San Francisco Fran-cisco exposition. The Chilean consul in San Francisco, Senor Augusta Mondane, will, of course, resume his post when he readies the exposition ex-position city. The others, Senois Carlos Car-los Alvarez Condarco of Valparaiso and Santiago; Guillermo Fguiguren of Valparaiso Val-paraiso and Roberts Pretot Frreire qf Santiago, will sail for South America after viewing the world's fair. "Chile was very quiet in a business way when the war began, ' 1 said Senor Alvarez Condarco, who speaks English fluently, ' ' but since the higher prices of eppper and other metals, there has been great improvement. The country is more busy and prosperous. We have elected a new president, but the election elec-tion caused no upheaval of any sort. Chile is fortunately free from political trouble at the present time. ' 1 The visitors said that a larger trade between Chile and the United States should come about now that the Panama Pan-ama canal is open apd the war in Europe Eu-rope is on. They arrived yesterday afternoon and are stopping at the IJotel Utah. They will leave this morning for the west. |
