Show SUMVSDE TEAM 15 VICTOR IN CONTEST Will Represent Utah in Great First Aid and Mine Rescue Competition. Special to The Tribune. SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., Sept. '23. The Sunnyside team of the Utah Fuel company will represent Utah at the national na-tional first aid and mine rescue competition competi-tion tomorrow, having been successful iu both first aid and mine rescue in the state elimination contests today over the Hiawatha team of tKe United States Fuel company, which, however, scored high among "the forty-six teams represented. repre-sented. In the mine rescue eliminations this forenoon the Sunnyside team scored 92.3, the highest of any team entered. Figures on the first aid competition were not announced. The Sunnyside team consists of M. A. Detwilor, cap-taiu; cap-taiu; Zeph Thomas, J. J. Johnson, George Clark, J. W. Littlejohn and George Usher. The team is accompanied by General Superintendent J. S. Thompson Thomp-son of the Utah Fuel company, H. H. Sanderson, trainer of the team, and Dr. Andrew Dowd of Sunnyside and members mem-bers of their families. The Hiawatha team consists of E. E. Jones, Captain; John Reese, "William Butler, Milton Butler, George Wilson and Richard Haycock. J. R. Carpenter of the United States Fuel company, Trainer Arthur Dennison, Dr. James Dowd of Hiawatha and others are with the team. The contests took place on the lawn north of the palace of mines and metallurgy metal-lurgy at the exposition, and were witnessed wit-nessed by large crowds, including many well-known Utah mining men and other citizens of the state. Interested spectators were President Carl Seholz. of the American Mining congress, Van H. Manning, director of the government govern-ment bureau of mines; President W. L. Saunders of the American Institute of Mining Engineers and many other noted mining men, who complimented the Utah boys heartily on their showing. show-ing. None is more enthusiastic in his congratulations than the members of the Hiawatha team, who are rooting strongly for the Sunny Bide team tonight, to-night, and express the conviction that the national championship will come to Utah tomorrow.
