Show PARASITES DESTROY POTATO CROP. Loss It 82 Per, Cent Per Farm, According to Government Expert. Special to The Tribune. BOUNTIFUU, July 19. There is . an average loss of ;65 bushels of early Ohio potatoes per" farm on the farms in Davis county, according to P. J. Saunders of the United States department of agriculture, agricul-ture, who has visited thirty-one farms in this county. Mr. Saunders says that the loss per farm averages more than 82 per cent. The two diseases, which he says are responsible for these losses, are known aa fusarlum oxysporium and rhezoctonia. Mr. Saunders says that the late potato po-tato is also diseased, but that many of the large fields are apparently free from the trouble. He is of the opinion that a few weeks later will no doubt reveal these diseases, though in a much less virulent vir-ulent form. He holds out the hope to the farmers that the extreme heat will no doubt destroy the parasites, in which case he says the late potato crop will be fair. According to Mr. Saunders, the tomato crop In the same district is suffering! from the fusarlum wilt. |
