Show GRANITE VICTORIOUS IN SCHOOL CONTESTS Defeats Jordan in Competitions, Spelling, Spell-ing, Arithmetic, Live Languages and Chorus Singing. The grade schools of Granite won a victory over the grado pupils of the Jordan schools yesterday at a contest held in Murray. Contests in scholarship scholar-ship have been held between Granite, Jordan and Murray a number of times during tho past school 3'ear. Yesterday Yester-day all but one point was won by Granite. In the competition in spelling, participated par-ticipated in by tho eighth grades of both districts, Granite was the winner. G. N. Child, supervisor of tho Halt Lake grammar grades, acted as judge. Granite also won in a chorus competition, compe-tition, the choruses being made up of fifth and sixth grade pupils. Supervisor Super-visor of Music Roberts of the Murray schools was the judgo. The winning chorus was conducted by Mrs. S. A. 1 Jones. In arithmetic, also judged by Mr. Child, G ran i te was a ga in th o win nor. Jordan won in the "live language ' ' contest , which consisted in the rompn-sitjnn rompn-sitjnn of essays on personal experiences nf the students. This was judged by Professor Howard ft. Drigga of the University of Utah. The arithmetic was for seventh grade students and the language contest for sixth grade pu-piU. |
