Show EXPRESS THIS II BEIIF OF HE NAVY Secretary Daniels and Admiral Ad-miral Dewey Write Letters to Chairman Padgett. WASHINGTON, May 9. Secretary Daniels and Admiral Dewey, In behalf of the navy, have written to Chairman Padgett of the house naval committee thanking him and other representatives for their defense of naval officers made in the house during consideration of the naval appropriation bill. "Permit me to thank you," Secretary Daniels said, "for your defense of the personnel of the navy against charges to which men in responsible positions always are liable, and to which they are sometimes prevented from making reply. I am confident that I convey the sentiments senti-ments of the entire service, as well as my personal views, in expressing the wish that you may always be equally successful ni whatever you undertake." Admiral Dewey wrote: "My great appreciation of your defense of the officers of the navy against the imputations made in the house that they aro guilty of unworthy motives and conduct con-duct in connection with their advocacy of an adequate navy. This appreciation extends to the other members of the house who defended the honorable motives mo-tives of naval officers in a body where they have no authorized spokesman and of which they would be defenseless against such attacks except for the voluntary vol-untary action of their friends. In making mak-ing this acknowledgment I speak for the officers associated with me. and am sure that I represent thet sentiment of the entire naval service." |
