Show BANDITS LOSE NERVE WHEN TRI STOPS Four Men Attempt to Hold Up Palm Beach Limited at Stuart, Florida. By International News Service. PALM BEACH, Fla., Feb. 7. Four masked bandits climbed onto the observation ob-servation platform of the Palm Beach limited, southbound, while the traiu was taking water at Stuart, thirty miles north of here, tonight, drew revolvers i on tho passengers and then, apparent losing their nerve whon the train stopped, escaped, after firing a shot, without robbing any of the passengers. The Palm Beach limited is known as the "millionaires' train," because it is one of the most luxurious in tho service, A brake-man locked the forward door of the car the momeut tho alarm was given, but the bandits forced him to open it and sent all the women ahead, saving they wanted nothing from them. Donald La mess, an, Atlanta publisher, publish-er, and his 7-year-old son Augustus; F. W. Kirtland, traffic manager, and E. P. Roger, general freight agent of the Florida East Coast Railroad company, were on the rear platform as the men swung aboard while the train was getting get-ting under way. lorcing the passengers ahead of them into the car, the would-be robbers pulled revolvers and shouted for all passengers to hold up their hands. Women forced to enter a forward car gave the alarm, which was passed to the engineer and the train was stopped. Hearing the grinding of the brakes, the robbers, who were then preparing to go through the pockets of the men passengers, took fright and leaped from the train. Men an pposed to be the bandits have been arrested at JStuart and are awaiting identification. |
