George K. jjl Hunter of the seventh cavalry has is- ,flH sued au order prohibiting the men of jJ tho Manila garrison from appearing in jJ public with native women. The order IJ was imperative and read: ;H ' 'Members of this command are hero-by hero-by forbidden to be seen in public in the company of native women, except jflH thoso men 'who aro married to such iH women." An explanation of the reasons gov- jH crning the issue of tho order did not jH accompany the report. It is under- jH stood, however, that the prohibition will not prcvont the men who havo lost ;H their hearts to the brown skinned girls jH from courting them iu the privacy of iH their homes. jH |
