Show RETALIATION IS BEGUN. It was, perhaps, only to be expected that the destructive militant suffragists suffra-gists in England would invite retaliation. retalia-tion. Tho British public seemed' to be meek and long-suffering in this matter and has not undertaken to retort upon the suffragists for the damage that they have caused. Suffragette mobs havo now been met by other mobs, and whereas the suffragettes havg been allowed al-lowed to pursue their course and overthrow over-throw the police if they were able to to do it, they are now so mobbed themselves them-selves that thoy have to appeal to and depend upon tho police for protection. From this there appears to be a change in the tone of tho British public. pub-lic. The suffragette mobs are met by opposition mobs, and the women mob-bcrs mob-bcrs roughly handled. This, of course, is unchivalrous, unmanly, and hide-cont. hide-cont. And yet it is no more than was to be expected. Beyond that, however, there is reported to be an auti-suffrage organization which threatens reciprocal recip-rocal violence against property of tho suffragists. It is tuid to bo the programme pro-gramme of that anti-suffrage organization organiza-tion or league to retaliate upon the suffragists wheucver they destroy any property. That anti-suffrage Icaguo has issued a circular which sayg, among other things, that "every act of violence perpetrated by the militants mili-tants will be answered by attacks on private houses or property of militant auffragists." That is, where the suffragette suf-fragette mobs destroy property, this retaliatory organization will destroy tho property and homes of suffragists. Thore Is no dofenso for this rotalia-tory rotalia-tory organization. It is utterly lawless, law-less, and to bo unroservcdly condemned. But what is more natural in the general makeup of humanity than for ono to retaliate upon thoso who commit an injury? in-jury? Wc imagine that if this retaliatory retalia-tory organization cots in a few strokes of work upon the lino it declares iu its circular, that this will haw moro cf feet in restraining the militant suf fragisls iu their destruction of other people's property than anything that tho government or police can do by way of restraint, |
