Show ELDER J. E, TAYLOR TALKS MORMON Tells the Story of the Foundation Founda-tion of Latter-day Saints' Belief. . President William McLaughlan of the Pioneer stake presided at the services in tho Mormon tabernacle Sunday afternoon after-noon nnd the only speaker was Joseph E. Taylor. Tho speaker mado the usual explanation ex-planation to the visitors regarding- tho preaching without immediate preparation along a certain text. He said that no man should attempt to preach without the proper spirit, but that ho had experience ex-perience and that all ho needed was the Inspiration of the Holy Ghost. The speaker said that ho would mako his remarks- on tho thought that came to him after an Interrupted conversation with an eastern woman, whose name he did not give. The woman had asked him to explain the difference between his religion re-ligion and that of the outside world. He had not been given time to answer the woman's question then as she had been forced to leave In order to catch her train, and he would attempt to answer that question. He said in part: "Joseph S'mlth did not secede from any church or abandon any creed. Ho had studied the Bible, but he had bosun this study In a way different from any other church organization. He announced that he had seen God and that God had Introduced to him his son. Jesus Christ. The difference b2tweon Joseph Smith and the Savior was that Joseph had no John tho Baptist preceding him to announce his comjnsr. Joseph stood alone. His father had faith in him. however, and when Joseph told him of his mission the father said, 'Go and do as the angels bid 3ou. "It is no wonder that the other denominations de-nominations which thoticht that they were rlnht were oonosod to Joseph, for when he asked which of these denominations denomina-tions lie should follow the answer was "Not one.' It Is no wonder that Joseph suffered persecution from these people who thoucht that they were rteht when he said that they had all strayed from the path. Joseph Smith, however, knew that he had received his authority direct from heaven and he maintained 11. The proof of his position is to bo found in the number of his followers here and In other lands." The services were oponed with the singing sing-ing by the choir of "Awake. Ye Saints of God. Awake," after which Elder Joseph S. Wells offered the opening prayer. The choir then Eang "Great God Attend While ZIon Sings." After tho sermon the choir sane; the anthem. "From Afar, Gracious Lord. Thou Didst Gather Thy Flock," and the benediction was pronounced pro-nounced by Elder William Hyde. |
