Several matters of Importance arc scheduled to come up for consideration at tonight's session of tho city council. coun-cil. The municipal laws committee will recommend the adoption of a proposed ordinance or-dinance prohibiting tho erection of signs of Inflammable or combustible material on or In front of store buildings, and tho hanging of such signs across public thoroughfares; the proposed ordinance alsq prohibits persons from placing signs on tho topa or cornices of buildings without with-out first obtaining permission from tho city council so to do. This ordinance Is designated to reduce dangor from lire, it being' argued that the covering of the fronts of store buildings build-ings and other places is not only flun-gerous flun-gerous from the standpoint of combustion, but also from tho fact that it obscures tho interior view, which is ossentlal not not only In case of fire, but also other emergencies. The proposed ordinance also will serve to rid the city of unsightly unsight-ly advertising matter In front of buildings build-ings anu other places. It is pointed out. The public market question also may corao up for consideration tonight, but it Is said that It will bo referred to the committee of the whole. Tho residents In the vicinity of Second West street and South Temple and First South streets are protesting against the market In that location, lo-cation, and the council will endeavor to settle the matter to the satisfaction of all. Councilman .T. W. McKlnncy's resolution resolu-tion providing for the appolntmont of a committee of fifteen -with tho mayor and the president of the council associated, to arrange for an appropriate observance of Independence day. July 4, will be taken up tonight. Last Monday night It went over one week. It Is hoped to have a celebration of Independence day this year similar to that of last, which was the most appropriate and instructive, not to mention the safety, ever held In Zion. Last year $2000 was appropriated by the city council for an appropriate observance of tho day, and 'a big celebration for the ehildrcn was held at Liberty park. Councilman M. B. Mulvey's resolution providing that 2000 feet of Maglnnls metal pipe be ordered for the proposed outlet of the gravity sewer, which proposition is under consideration at the present time, also will come up tonight. |
