Show CHILD MEETS DEATH I II TROUT POND Alma D. Hofer, Aged Two Years, Drowned While at Play. Alma D. Hofer, the 2-year-old son of Carl Hofer, a farmer and trout grower of 2(01 Third East street, was drowned In. a fish pond on the premises yesterday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock. The parents of the unfortunate child and several neighbors wore sitting in the shade near the pond watching the little boy and a number of companions playing play-ing with some young ducks. The children chil-dren were catching the ducklings and throwing them into the pond. Finally, Alma Hofer caught a duckling and started start-ed for the pond mlth it. A moment later, one of the child's companions cried out that he had fallen Into the water. Mr. Hofer rushed to the rescue, but tho child's body had disappeared and It was fully five minutes before it was recovered, re-covered, face downward at the bottom of the shallow pond. Dr. T. IT. F. Morton, Mor-ton, who happened to be visiting at a neighboring home, was hastily summoned, but efforts at resuscitating the child failed. No arrangements have been made for the funeral. |
