ELABORATE ARRANGEMENTS MADE FOR ENTERTAINMENT Many of the Visitors Will Remain Re-main in City for Week or Ten Days. A. large party of Santa Monica Elks, their families and friends, arrive over the Salt Luke Route this morning at 6:30 o'clock, on their second annual excursion to Salt Lake. During their stay In this city, the visitors will be royally entertained enter-tained by the local lodge, which has appointed ap-pointed a committee consisting of James W. Collins. E. E. Hawlcy and C. L. Ap-plcgate Ap-plcgate to look after their needs, as many members as can make favoraOle arrangements ar-rangements will meet the incoming train and escort the excursionists to tneir hotels. . , Second Visit to Salt Lake. For a number of years the Utah lodges and those of California have been exchanging ex-changing visits, each trying to outdo the other in hospitality, entertainment and fraternal reception. The first visit ot the Santa Monica lodge to this city was made last July, when a programme was carried oilt in honor of tho initial visit in a manner long to be remembered. It was expected that several hundred Elks from the coast city would make tho trip again this year, and arrangements wero accordingly made by both lodges. However, How-ever, the Long Beach and coast resorts have opened much earlier than usual and as a large number of tho coast Elks are obliged to look after buslnoss during the pleasure season, they have been precluded pre-cluded from joining their friends. It Is expected that between thirty and forty will represent the Santa Monica lodge upon this occasion. A number of prominent Elks from tho coast arrived last evening and roglstcred at the homo of the local lodge. They are John A. Morton, past exalted ruler of the Santa Monica lodge; Frank A. Wetzell, George A. Sheehari. E B. IT. Avery and J. M. Graham These men wore taken on a sight-seeing lour of Salt Lake and vicinity In automobiles yesterday, as tho guests of the local lodge. Plans for Entertainment. According to tho original arrangements, which may be altered somewhat now that a much smaller number of visitors will come, a concert is to he given at the local lodge on State street by the Long Beach Municipal band, under the direction of E. IT. Willey, at 10:30 o'clock this morning, following which an olaborate luncheon will be served In tho lodge dining room. During the afternoon the visitors will be taken to different points of interest, ending end-ing up either at the Lagoon. Saltalr or some other resort In the evening. The sight-seeing features will continue next day, and on Tuesday evening the visitors will attend the flag drill of the local lodge, which will be carried out In accordance with tho precedent established by the grand lodge assemblage at Philadelphia Phila-delphia In 1007. Song "America" (Audience join). Exercises begin at S:30 p. m. The officials of tho Santa Monica lodge will upon their arrival arrange a programme pro-gramme for the entertainment of their accompanying friends. Trips will be taken to the different resorts and Ogden. Most of the cxcurtlonlsts. it Is understood, under-stood, will remain in the city about a week or ten days, while others will be obliged to make their stay short. |
