Show TOOELE KILL HAVE CATHOLIGJCHURCH Cornerstone of New House of Worship AVili Bo Laid Today. LARGE NUMBER TO ATTEND ' INTERESTING CEREMONIES Congregation Promises to Grow Rapidly When Big Smelter Is Completed. A notable gathering will witness tho laying of the cornor stono of the new Catholic church at Tooele today (Sunday). (Sun-day). A largo party of Salt Lako and Butto citizens went to tho now town Saturday and many more will go out today to-day to bo prcsont at. tho ceremonies. Tho Very Rev. D. Kicly, vicar general of this diocese, will havo chargo of the ceremonies and the sorviccs J)id tair to be of a most interesting character. It -will not tako long to complete the church, and as soon as ready for occupancy oc-cupancy mass will be celebrated at 10 o'clock on tho second and fourth bun-, days of each month by tho Kov. Father Slattery nnl.il such tunc as tho parish becomes large enough to havo its own priest and rogular Sunday services. Around tho church, in keeping with the rest of tho new town, shado trees will bo planted and the grounds will bo beautified as soon, as possible. The furniture fur-niture will bo taken from the old St. Mary's cathedral of this city and already al-ready prominent Catholics both here and in Montana, havo interested themselves iu its future welfare, and tho new church will start upon its career under the most favorable auspices. As tho smelter will be finished by April 1, it is oxpectcd that tho congregation will soon thereafter assume largo proportions and tho church will become one of the most important, ones in the diocese. It is an important move in tho local history of the Catholic church and but a step toward even greater expansion among the important mining towns aud other cities ot tho intermountain country. |
