Plans tor the new . theater building j which is to bo erected by Mrs. Evelyn I Auerbach on the south side of Third South, between Main and State streets, j were received Wednesday, morning from I Architect E. W. Houghton, of Seattle, j I and work will be started on the structure struc-ture as soon as the plans can be c.- t amined by the owners uml any desired i I changes made. j Tho plans comprehend one of the handsomest and most up to date theater buildings in the WcsL besides three stories and two floors of bachelor apart- mehts. The basement will be given over to a rathskeller, and it is intended to make tho place one of tho most at- J tractive in the city from the amusement standpoint. The ground floor of the building will bo 11 0x290. fool, including tho stores, which will occupy a space 100 feet deep in tho front. Tho entrance en-trance to tho theater proper will be through a long passage with plate glass I on the sides, giving an opportunity for a handsome display by tho stores on : each side. Entrance to Lhe apartments and to the rathskeller will be at the northwest corner of tho building and will be separate from tho rest of the building. There will be fifty-two rooms, twentv-five with bath, and so arranged that they may be occupied singly or en suite. Full details of the furnishings of the rathskeller have not yet been arranged. I but it is intended to make it. one of ; the fiucst of its kind in tho West. i Theater Will Hold 1700. , The theater proper will be arranged I to hold comfortably 1700 people. Tho i scRts will he arranged in pairs, according accord-ing to the most modern idea, 'l'hprc will bo two galleries, oliptical in form, and so constructed that 'the stage will be plainly visible from every portion of the house. The stage will be UoxSO feet, and tho proscenium arch HS feet wide. Thero will also be twelve boxes, six on each side of the auditorium and arranged in two tiers. The interior finish fin-ish of the theater will be white and green. The finish will be simple in design de-sign and nothing will be spared to malco the place attractive, although the utilitarian utili-tarian standpoint will be carefully considered. con-sidered. Large and commodious dressing dress-ing rooms will be provided for the stars, aud there will be also three large dress ing rooms for the chorus. Tho building will be three stories in height, although the lower portion will be constructed so that it will be possible j to increase the height to six stories if it is found desirable to do so. The material will be gray sandstone and buff pressed brick. It is intended to make tho structure fireproof as far as possible, and special apparatus will bo installed throughout the building to prevent pre-vent the spreading of fire. A patent sprinkling apparatus will be installed over tho stage, and tho exits will bo numerous and convenient of access. The theater will bo leased by the Worth western Theatrical syndicate and divotcd to first-class plays, and especially espe-cially museial comedies. Tho manager has not yet been appointed, Work of erecting the building is under tho charge of H. A. Hodgson, of Seattle. Excavation for the foundation is nl-ready nl-ready going forward and it is expected that the theater will bo ready for occupancy oc-cupancy by the late fall. Alreadyinany of the apartments have been spoken for, and it is expected that they will all bo taken before the completion com-pletion of the building. |
