Show PLEADED WITH THE JUDGE FDD MERCY Wife Looked on' With Disdain and Filed Action for Divorce. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, July 15. In an earnest, prayerful tone of voice Thomas Halley pleaded with Judge Murphy In the pollco court to release him from the charge of disturbing the peace, made on complaint of his wife, promising to revolutionize his manner of living in the future If the court would but show him mercy this ono time. Seated near him was Emma Halley, his wife, who regarded his entreaties &for mercy with cold disdain. Halley promised prom-ised that he would comply with almost any promise the court exacted from him. Among other things, he said he would in the future be a good . husband, support his wife, quit drinking, and he probably would have been making promises yet If the court had not stopped him with a suspended sentence of ninety-nine days on the rock pile, pending good behavior. Halley was overjoyed. Ilo looked at his wife, but there was no Joy reflected from her face. Both started from the court room about the samo time. He helped her Into the buggy and with a sweep of her arm she waved him aside when he attempted to tuko a seat beside her. In her complaint she alleges that he has treated her in a manner most outrageous ever since their marriage in Salt Lake last October. At divers times he has threatened her with bodily harm, sho asserts, and accused her of unchastlty, using vllo language In her presence. Tho final rupture came on July 2. when Hailcy is said to have attacked at-tacked his wife and choked her severely. She Ih seeking, in addition to a divorce, reasonable alimony and certain real estate along Healy avenue In this city. |
