Show Loaded Hack Dashes for Two Miles Down South Temple Tem-ple Street. DRIVER WAS POWERLESS TO CHECK HIS HORSES Aside From Nervous Shock to Lady Occupants There Was No Damage. Plunging for two miles down grade through South Temple etreet, In a hack drawn by frenzied horses who had got beyond control of their driver, was the exciting experience of Mr. and Mrs. W L. Blercach and Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Nunn, all of Provo, who worn In Salt Lake Sunday attending the funeral of Edgar Storms, a young citizen of Provo, who died at the L. D. S. hospltul Wednesday Wednes-day and was burled Sunday from St Mark's cathedral. Tug Came Loose. Whllo tho horses, driven by J. E. Moore of McCoy's Gtables, were returning from Mt. Olivet cemetery, whoro the Interment was had, a tug came loose as tho vehicle turned Into South Temple at Eleventh East street, tho end striking tho off horse In the Hank, thus causing the hlgh-splrlt-ed animals lo got beyond the control of their driver. Almost with the first leap of the horses the tongue was loosed from the neck-yoke, but In some manner was thrown abovo It, and so rested during all of tho wild ride. All Down Hill. The entire distance from Eleventh East to Fourth West street, where the animals were ftiutllv checked, partly through exhaustion, ex-haustion, Is down hill. Tho hack crowded crowd-ed upon tho horses so that the other tugs came loose, and the only connection between the animals and the hack was the reins held by the brave driver, who kept his nerve to the end. Climbed Out to Aid. Mr. Nunn, with rare presence of mind, opened tho door of the rig and. In spite of the frightful speed at which they were going, climbed up to tho box and assistod the driver to regain control of the team. As tho Short Line tracks at Third Went street were passed the Jar threw tho driver forward so that he fell upon tho horses. Mr. Nunn then held the reins, and at the end of another block the team was so nearly exhausted that they were placed under control. Suffer From ITervous Shock. Mrs. Nunn and Mrs. Blersach uffercd somewhat from tne nervous shock. Mr. Nunn received several bruises In climbing climb-ing from the hack to tho box. Each member of the party, while rejoicing that their experience was not more disastrous, stated that a fortune would be no temptation to repeat the awful ride. |
