Show COAST BALL MAGNATES MEET Four Franchises Were Granted at Portland Yesterday. PORTLAND, Aug. 21. The representatives representa-tives of the Pacific Coast Baseball league were in session In this city today. Various questions affecting the Interests of the organization were discussed. The following fol-lowing were ln attendance Henrv Harris, Har-ris, representing the Snn Francisco" team; J. Cal Ewlng. Oakland, J. P Agnew, Seattle; Dave Evans and M. A. Fisher. Tacoma; Judge .McCrcdle and Ben C. Ely. Portland, and Secretary J. A. Anderson. Representatives of the Spokane team appeared ap-peared before the board and applied for membership In the Pacific Coast league. Action deferred. Eugene Burt will bo president of the league for tho next throe ears- In addition addi-tion to being elected to serve three yeara. resolutions were passed, thanking President Presi-dent Burt for his past services, and expressing ex-pressing a hopu of his speedy and complete com-plete recovery. James Morley of Los Angeles was not on hand, and the Los Angeles franchise was left open. Franchise were grnntod to Portland, Seattle. Tacoma and San Francisco. Tho umpire question was thoroughly dlBcussed. and from now on only sickness and delayed trains will go as an excuse for umpires falling to report and umpire games. Most of the time -of the meeting was taken up in lh6 discussion of the absence of attendance at Tacoma and Oakland. This problem was allowed to go over. |
