A huge crowd gathered gath-ered at the Provo opera-house tonight to hear George A. Smith of Salt Lake City address the Republicans of Provo. The opera-houso was tastefully decorated, large pictures of tho President and Scna- tor Fairbanks occupying tho places of honor. On the platform was Apostle Georgo A Smith. Senator Reed Smoot, County Chairman Homer. D. D. Houtz and Judge II. P3. Booth. Postmaster Clove and Assistant Postmnster Duscnberry. Daniel II. Thomas was chairman of'thc evening. t ' The llrst Item on the programme was a selection by the ISuterpe trio, County Chairman Homer was introduced and made a short speech. lie gave a glowing account of conditions in Utah county and predicted that the enllre Republican ticket would bo elected. Ho said tho Democrats were worrying considerably and were figuring as to how they could scratch their tickets successfully election day. Apostlo Smith, the speaker of tho ev-. enlng, compared the two platforms, spoko on the tariff question and took ocension to deny that Cutler, the Republican enn-dldato enn-dldato for Governor, owned the sweatshop where men aro paid In tllhlng scrip. Judgo Houtz made a few remarks beforo the close of the meeting. |
